Course

Good news: in November 2024, I entered a training program to become an MTSZ-certified hiking guide! It's very intensive and a lot to handle on top of my PhD dissertation, and I wanted to keep track of my progress somewhere, especially with "the terrain book" by Miklós Halász. I tried Obsidian, but it was a mess (long story). I had this idea to create progress bars for each chapter, and I had managed to conjure up some in Obsidian before I gave up on it, so I tried to find an alternative where it was also possible. Ultimately, I decided that good old, reliable HTML would be the perfect solution. So here we are.

The course is hosted (? for lack of a better word) by TVOSE, while the exam itself is offered by MTSZ (Hungarian Hikers' Association). Unfortunately it's not an accredited profession on its own, but it's still something you can legally do with a few workarounds.

I don't know yet whether I want to keep track of all my progress on one page (which is something I wouldn't be able to do in Obsidian, so it would be super satisfying :-P) or have a few different thematic pages. Also—do I want to continuously update the progress bar or use this page (or these pages) as a log? It's a blog after all, right? Anyway, for now, here's my progress with the terrain book (Terrain Analysis and Map Knowledge, 1987):

Riveting, I know.
